January 23 - Winter Storm Warning

Severe Winter Weather Expected This Weekend – What Residents Should Know

The National Weather Service is forecasting severe winter weather across our region this weekend, including significant snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures. The City of Brentwood is preparing, and we ask residents to take time now to prepare as well.

Winter Weather Safety & Preparedness Tips

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy snow and extreme cold.
  • Dress in layers and limit time outdoors to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.
  • Keep emergency supplies on hand, including food, water, medications, flashlights, and extra blankets.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need extra assistance during extreme cold.
  • Ensure pets are brought indoors and have adequate shelter from the cold.

Stay Informed with CodeRED Emergency Alerts

Snowplow Reminders
As snow removal operations begin, we ask residents to help keep our streets as safe and clear as possible:

  • Please park vehicles in driveways whenever possible. Vehicles parked on streets make it difficult for snowplows to maneuver and fully clear roadways.
  • Give snowplows plenty of space. Do not tailgate or attempt to pass plow trucks.
  • Stay at least four car lengths back from snowplows. Blowing snow can reduce visibility, and salt or sand may be thrown from spreaders.
  • Drive according to weather conditions, which may require traveling below posted speed limits.
  • Make sure your vehicle is winter-ready: use headlights, maintain adequate fuel levels and wiper fluid, and ensure tires have sufficient tread.

Travel Safety – If You MUST Be on the Roads
If travel is unavoidable, residents are encouraged to take extra precautions:

  • Let someone know your travel route and estimated arrival time.
  • Keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets, extra warm clothing, gloves and hats, food, water, a flashlight, phone charger, and any necessary medications.
  • Maintain at least a half tank of fuel to help prevent fuel line freeze and to allow heat to run if stranded.
  • Drive slowly and increase following distance to allow extra time to stop.
  • If your vehicle becomes disabled, remain inside the vehicle when possible and call for assistance.

Stay Connected for Updates
Residents are encouraged to monitor the City of Brentwood’s communication channels, including our website and social media platforms, for the latest information regarding weather-related updates, delays, or closures.

Thank you and stay warm and safe this weekend!
