Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial committee made up of Brentwood residents who are appointed by the Mayor with Board of Aldermen approval. When strict adherence to the letter of the Brentwood Zoning Code creates significant practical difficulties or unnecessary hardships in the construction or alteration of buildings or structures, signage or the use of land, the Board of Adjustment may vary or modify the zoning regulations. A variance allows reasonable use of property which, due to unusual size, shape, topography or some other unique physical characteristic, cannot be developed with strict adherence to the letter of the zoning code. The Board of Adjustment is authorized by state statute under RSMo Chapter 89.

The Board includes five regular members with three alternate members. They are appointed to five-year terms. The Board meets at 7 pm the fourth Thursday of the month on an as-needed basis. Applications for the Board of Adjustment are due 30 days prior to the meeting. Brentwood residents interested in serving on the Board of Adjustment may apply using the Volunteer Interest Form.
