From the Mayor’s Desk

Dear Residents:

I hope you are planning to attend the Brentwood Days celebration on Sept. 17 and 18at Brentwood Park.  The theme for this year’s event is “Meet Me at the Fair.”  Friday evening will include live music, booths, food and rides.  Saturday we will kick off our celebration with our traditional parade, which begins at noon.  The parade will start in Brentwood Forest and head south on High School Drive, east on Litzsinger and south on Bremerton to Brentwood Park.  As always we will conclude our celebration Saturday night with a fantastic fireworks display.  We are fortunate to live in such a great community, and this is a chance for everyone to spend some time together with their family, friends and neighbors.

At our August 16 Board of Aldermen meeting we set the property tax rates for this year.  It is important to note that over the past few years we have worked to lower and finally eliminate the city’s portion of your residential real estate property taxes.  The city could be assessing up to $0.85 in real estate property taxes but has elected to set the rate at zero.  Brentwood now has one of the lowest total tax rates in St. Louis County.  We are also the only municipality in St. Louis that has no residential utility taxes, which range from 7% to 10% throughout the county.

You should have received your first issue of the new PARC Activity Guide.  This a joint effort between Brentwood, Maplewood and Richmond Heights parks departments to offer more programs and services to the residents of all three communities.  You will now be able to register for any program at our community center and receive residential rates for all programs even if the program is one offered by one of the other park departments.

I have met with representatives of the Great Rivers Green Way District, which is the organization responsible for constructing a network of walking trails and paths throughout the St. Louis region.  We are working to expand and connect our trail systems with theirs.  They are just starting the planning process for this area and would like to form a citizens advisory group to help in the process.  I will be looking for volunteers to work with this group.

As we start another school year, let’s be mindful of children walking to and from school. We are all responsible for taking care of our children and maintaining safe neighborhoods.

Mayor Pat Kelly

Seconds DO Count

Please remember, in order for your Brentwood Firefighters and Paramedics to help you, we must be able to see your address.  Each year our calls for emergency help increases.  Several times we have responded to an emergency only to find that there was no visible address on the home or business.  Sometimes this will delay us in helping you.  If you have a fire or medical emergency, second do count.  Please check your home or business and make sure your address is visible from the street.  Thank you!
